Flimsy Green Board

Lifemark is proud to share its recent partnership with the Ronald McDonald House of Springfield, Missouri. When we received a call from them for an estimate for a bathroom that had a faulty grab bar, we knew that we wanted to give back to our community! Along with our regular free estimates, we offered the bathroom remodel – labor and materials – for free! We believe Ronald McDonald House is a wonderful resource for our community and we’re so glad to be able to contribute to those who stay there.

The worst security is false security. When we arrived at RMH the grab bar was coming off of the wall and moved with every touch. If someone were to put their weight on this bar we believe it would’ve ripped out of the wall and seriously hurt the person using it.

Why was the grab bar so shaky? Unlike most remodelers, we do not use green board and double-sided tape to attach fixtures. That is a temporary solution that ultimately leads to injuries. Green board is known as a moisture resistant drywall. Although it can be the more expensive choice, often implying better quality, it is not water resistant and should not be used in places that meet any type of water. Green board can hold moisture for a long time, becoming weak and could even begin to grow mold.

Our Process

Lifemark takes a different, safer approach. We attach wood to the studs of the building and use a Thermal Expansion Sealant and our Acrylic tub or shower wall system.  This allows for our grab bars to be placed strategically, not just where the studs are in the bath and/or shower.

Being able to give back to our Springfield community and assisting the Ronald McDonald House has been a pleasure. Knowing that the next person to use that tub will have complete security brings each of us peace of mind. This type of care and attention is the goal we have to bring each and every one of our customers.
